Explain Urinary Track Infection A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common bacterial infection that affects any part of the urinary system. The urinary system is responsible for filtering and eliminating waste products from the body through urine. It includes the kidneys, ureters (tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder), the bladder (where urine is stored), and the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body). UTIs most commonly occur in the lower part of the urinary tract, which includes the bladder and the urethra. However, they can also affect the upper part of the urinary tract, including the kidneys, which is known as pyelonephritis. Causes:  The majority of UTIs are caused by bacteria that enter the urinary system through the urethra and then multiply in the bladder.
